How To Be The Best Coach You Can Be

*Becoming a Better Coach

-Don't be an uneducated, or a know it all, find a good median

-A good coach is someone who sees the big picture and is able to balance the science and art of coaching. Someone who understands all the technical material but is also comfortable adapting it for a given athlete.

-Must have good teaching and communication strategies

-There are always gonna be bumps in the road while coaching. Just have to fight through, don't get overwhelmed, keep a cool head because something is gonna happen.

*BUY-IN

-Get the trust from your athletes so they will buy into the process.

-Trust is like a campfire must be laid down stick by stick/ Build it

-Make connections/ get to know your athletes on and off the field

*Relationship

-Build the relationship with your team/ each athlete

-Care about them on more than an athlete level because you do impact their lives so do it in a positive way

-Have to build an ability to cooperate to elevate

Example: ”If one person in a tribe back in the day made a big kill, they would share it with the others because in the future they might depend on others to share food with them. Bonds are the key to survival.”

 *Social Intelligence

-Must have the ability to navigate, negotiate, and be a positive influence within the relationships you build and environments you teach in.

-You have to be able to, as a coach, work with athletes from all different backgrounds and pinpoint different strategies that work for these athletes.

-Don't get hung up on minor or irrelevant points!!!!

 *Time

-Having patience is key

-Patience is a conquering virtue

-Don't rush, buy in will happen but it is going to take time to truly build the culture you want

-Must be consistent, caring and have the ability to let go in certain situations you are unfamiliar with and adapt.
